Job Description
Working alongside class teachers and inclusion staff, SEND Teaching Assistants support pupils with additional needs. The focus is on providing tailored academic and emotional support, adapting tasks where needed, and helping pupils feel secure and confident in the classroom. Strong communication, patience, and consistency are essential, alongside a clear understanding of safeguarding responsibilities.
Supports pupils with SEND in lessons and structured interventions.
Works closely with teachers to adapt learning activities.
Promotes confidence, independence, and positive behaviour.
Maintains safeguarding, care, and wellbeing standards.
Desired Experience + Qualifications
Key Responsibilities:
Support teaching and learning for pupils with autism
Plan and deliver structured sessions, including using ABA and PECS methods
Provide 1:1 and small group support tailored to student needs
Manage and organise workload independently within a team setting
Collaborate closely with other professionals to support pupil progress
Required Experience and Qualifications:
Previous experience working with children is essential
Experience with autism support and special education is highly desirable
Familiarity with ABA and PECS is beneficial
Excellent communication skills and a compassionate, patient approach
Ability to build trusting relationships with pupils and colleagues
