Job Description

We’re seeking a Behaviour Support Assistant to work within a specialist SEND school in Wolverhampton. You’ll support pupils with autism, SEMH, and complex communication needs, helping them navigate daily routines, regulate big emotions, and build independence through structure and empathy. Your role is hands-on and rewarding — one day you’ll be supporting a pupil during a sensory break, the next you’ll be guiding them through a life skills session or outdoor activity. You’ll work alongside teachers, therapists, and pastoral staff who share a ‘team-first’ mindset. If you’re calm under pressure, good at reading emotions, and naturally encouraging, you’ll thrive here.

Job Responsibilities
Provide consistent regulation and behaviour support.
Assist with 1:1 and group sessions.
Use de-escalation techniques and emotional coaching.
Support communication methods including PECS, visuals, or Makaton.

Desired Experience
+ Qualifications

Experience in SEND or behaviour support desirable.
Calm, patient, and emotionally attuned.
Confident in high-energy or dysregulated moments.
Willing to learn therapeutic strategies.

About the School

This Wolverhampton SEND school is rated Good by Ofsted and is widely praised for its exceptional pastoral support. Staff work cohesively to provide pupils with a structured but nurturing environment where challenges are handled with care and consistency. The school values emotional development just as much as academic progress, offering pupils access to therapy spaces, sensory zones, life skills rooms, and outdoor learning areas. The leadership team is hands-on and ensures that all new staff receive mentoring, training, and wraparound support. If you’re passionate about helping young people find confidence and regulation, this school provides the perfect platform.
