Job Description

A forward-thinking Secondary school in Birmingham is seeking a Pastoral Manager to lead on pupil wellbeing, behaviour support, and day-to-day pastoral operations. You’ll support young people whose attendance, confidence, or emotional regulation affects their engagement with learning, ensuring they have structured, compassionate support in place.

You’ll oversee key pastoral processes, coordinate response systems, and work closely with Heads of Year, safeguarding leads, and teaching staff to maintain a consistent, relationship-led approach. This includes delivering targeted mentoring programmes, supporting behaviour plans, and guiding reintegration pathways following incidents or prolonged absence.

The role requires someone organised, emotionally intelligent, and confident managing sensitive situations with clarity and professionalism. You’ll be a central point of stability for pupils, helping them navigate challenges and return to learning with renewed confidence.

Lead daily pastoral operations across year groups.
Support pupils with behaviour, attendance, and wellbeing.
Coordinate interventions, mentoring, and reintegration plans.
Work closely with safeguarding, SEND, and teaching teams.

  • Confident communication with pupils, families, and staff.

  • Strong safeguarding awareness and accuracy with record-keeping.
