Job Description
A supportive SEND school in Solihull is seeking a Pastoral Mentor to work with pupils who need consistent emotional and wellbeing-focused support to engage confidently in learning. You’ll work with children whose attendance, behaviour, or readiness for learning is closely linked to how safe, understood, and supported they feel.
Your role will include daily check-ins, emotional regulation support, short mentoring sessions, and helping pupils navigate social challenges. Some children may struggle with anxiety or low confidence; others benefit from structured conversations and predictable routines to remain settled. You’ll provide the calm presence pupils return to when things feel overwhelming.
Working closely with the SEND team, pastoral leads, and teaching staff, you’ll play a key part in creating a school environment where wellbeing and learning go hand in hand. This role suits someone empathetic, patient, and confident supporting pupils through emotional ups and downs.
Provide pastoral mentoring and daily check-ins.
Support emotional regulation and pupil wellbeing.
Assist with attendance, engagement, and readiness for learning.
Work collaboratively with pastoral, SEND, and teaching teams.
Desired Experience + Qualifications
Experience supporting young people with emotional or behavioural needs.
Warm, non-judgemental communication style.
Ability to build trusting relationships over time.
Strong safeguarding awareness and consistent practice.
