Job Description
A primary school in Birmingham is seeking a dedicated 1:1 SEMH Support Assistant to work closely with a pupil requiring additional social, emotional, and mental health support. This role is ideal for someone who can build positive relationships, provide emotional reassurance, and help pupils overcome barriers to learning.
No two days will be the same. You'll play a key role in supporting a child's educational journey, helping them develop confidence, resilience, and strategies to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.
Key Responsibilities
Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with SEMH needs
Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies
Encourage engagement in classroom learning and school activities
Build a strong and trusting relationship with the pupil
Work collaboratively with teachers, SEND staff, and parents
Monitor progress and contribute to support plans where appropriate
Desired Experience + Qualifications
Previous experience supporting children with SEMH needs
Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
Patient, resilient, and empathetic approach
Ability to remain calm in challenging situations
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
