Job Description

A welcoming and inclusive SEND school in Coventry is looking for a Behaviour Buddy to join their specialist support team. The role focuses on helping children with autism, ADHD, and social or emotional needs develop positive routines, emotional regulation, and communication skills. You’ll work closely with teaching staff and therapists to maintain structured, safe learning environments where every child can make meaningful progress. This is not a typical classroom support role — it’s an opportunity to connect deeply with pupils, build trust through consistency, and help them manage the small moments that lead to big breakthroughs. You’ll receive full training on de-escalation techniques and sensory support strategies, with ongoing guidance from the school’s SENCO and wellbeing lead.

Job Responsibilities:
Support children with behavioural and emotional regulation strategies
Implement consistent routines and encourage positive communication
Provide calm, structured responses during challenging situations
Collaborate with teaching and therapy teams to create personalised plans

Desired Experience
+ Qualifications

Experience supporting children with SEND, behaviour, or SEMH needs
Resilient, empathetic, and able to stay calm under pressure
Knowledge of sensory or de-escalation approaches is an advantage
A strong sense of teamwork and a genuine care for pupil progress

About the School

This Coventry-based special school, rated Good by Ofsted, provides exceptional support for children aged 6–14 with autism and social, emotional, and mental health needs. The school’s approach combines structure with sensitivity — staff work collaboratively to deliver personalised learning pathways, integrating sensory activities and emotional regulation breaks into the day. Ofsted praised its “strong culture of care” and the way staff “promote resilience and respect in every interaction.” The leadership team is deeply invested in professional development, offering tailored training in Team Teach, sensory integration, and behaviour management. Staff describe the atmosphere as calm, supportive, and focused — a place where each child’s success is celebrated, no matter how small. For a Behaviour Buddy seeking purpose, stability, and growth, this is an outstanding environment to develop both skill and heart.
