Job Description

This role is perfect if you want hands-on impact and meaningful connections with pupils who learn differently. As a SEND Key Worker, you’ll support children with autism, SEMH, speech and language needs, and developmental delays in a specialist Birmingham setting. You’ll help pupils regulate, communicate, and progress—academically and emotionally—without being boxed into generic TA duties. You’ll work with a small, supportive multidisciplinary team including therapists and specialist teachers, contributing to personalised learning plans and structured routines. This job gives you space to build trust, celebrate small wins, and develop real expertise. If you’re driven, empathetic, and ready to be more than “an extra pair of hands,” this school gives you the environment to grow and make visible change.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with diverse SEND needs
Implement sensory breaks, visual supports, and communication strategies
Track progress and behaviour with guidance from SENCO and therapists
Assist in creating structured learning environments and routines
Liaise with pastoral staff, families, and external professionals
Model positive behaviour and emotional regulation daily

Desired Experience
+ Qualifications

Experience in a SEND, PRU, or specialist school setting (or strong transferable skills)
Confidence in supporting autism, SEMH, or communication needs
Ability to follow behaviour and sensory support plans
Patient, calm, and adaptable under pressure
Strong initiative and willingness to learn intervention strategies
Team player with good communication skills

About the School

Located in Birmingham, this Ofsted ‘Good’ specialist provision supports children with complex SEND needs in a carefully structured and therapeutic environment. The school is known for its integrated approach—combining teaching with speech therapy, sensory programmes, and emotional regulation strategies. Class sizes are very small, allowing staff to truly personalise support and track progress meaningfully. The school places a strong emphasis on pupil dignity, communication development, and preparing young people for independence. Staff are trained in de-escalation, assistive communication, and sensory regulation, with regular CPD built into the school culture. Behaviour is approached proactively, not punitively, and wellbeing is genuinely prioritised. Pupils make strong progress from their starting points thanks to consistency, care, and specialist input. If you’re passionate about SEND and want to deepen your expertise in a supportive setting, this school sets you up to succeed and grow.
