Job Description
Milestone Education is seeking compassionate and dedicated Autism Specialist Teaching Assistants to support pupils within specialist educational settings across Birmingham. This rewarding role is ideal for individuals with experience supporting children and young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) who are passionate about delivering personalised support that enables every learner to thrive.
Working alongside teachers, SENDCos, therapists, and families, you'll help create an inclusive learning environment where pupils can develop academically, socially, and emotionally.
Key Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
Adapt learning activities to meet individual learning styles and sensory needs
Support the implementation of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
Help pupils develop communication, social interaction, emotional regulation, and independence skills
Promote positive behaviour strategies and use appropriate de-escalation techniques
Work collaboratively with teachers, SENDCos, therapists, and parents/carers
Monitor and record pupil progress, providing feedback to teaching staff
Assist with personal care where required
Create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment
Desired Experience + Qualifications
Previous experience supporting children or young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
Strong understanding of autism-friendly approaches and sensory needs
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to build trusting relationships with pupils, colleagues, and families
Patient, empathetic, and resilient approach
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting positive outcomes for all learners
DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one
