Job Description

A specialist SEND school in Coventry is seeking an enthusiastic and compassionate Teacher – SEND Play Lead to join their team from September. This unique role is ideal for a qualified teacher with experience in SEND or Early Years, who believes in learning through play and is passionate about creating engaging, meaningful learning experiences for children with complex additional needs.

You'll work directly alongside pupils throughout the school day, delivering hands-on learning experiences rather than traditional desk-based teaching. Working collaboratively with therapists, teaching assistants, and families, you'll help pupils develop essential life skills, communication, and confidence through purposeful play.

Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver engaging, play-based learning experiences tailored to individual needs
Create a stimulating, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment
Support pupils' communication, social, emotional, and physical development
Adapt teaching strategies to meet a wide range of SEND needs
Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, and the wider multidisciplinary team
Monitor, assess, and record pupil progress against individual learning targets
Encourage independence, curiosity, and positive engagement through structured play
Maintain high standards of safeguarding, wellbeing, and inclusive practice

Desired Experience + Qualifications

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Previous experience teaching within a SEND or Early Years setting

  • Strong understanding of child-centred and play-based learning approaches

  • Excellent knowledge of inclusive teaching strategies

  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills

  • Patient, creative, and adaptable approach

  • DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one

  • Experience supporting pupils with PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities)

  • Strong understanding of a wide range of SEND needs

  • Creative approach to delivering engaging learning experiences

  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills

  • Passion for helping children develop confidence, communication, and independence
