Job Description
A warm, community-centred primary school in Birmingham North is looking for a Behaviour Buddy who brings calm, consistency, and emotional awareness to the classroom. In this role, you’ll support children who need help with self-regulation, confidence, and behaviour routines, working closely with teachers to ensure every pupil feels safe, included, and ready to learn. This is a hands-on position suited to someone who can think on their feet, build trust quickly, and understand that every behaviour communicates a need. You’ll provide a blend of in-class support, small-group intervention, and restorative conversations. For candidates looking to make a real difference in the emotional development of young learners, this is a deeply rewarding opportunity.
Job Responsibilities:
Support pupils with behaviour and emotional regulation across the school day.
Lead small-group and 1:1 pastoral interventions.
Use de-escalation and restorative approaches to rebuild confidence and trust.
Work with the SENCO, pastoral team, and teaching staff to create consistent behaviour plans.
Desired Experience
+ Qualifications
Experience supporting children with behavioural or pastoral needs.
Strong relationship-building skills and a calm, grounded approach.
Awareness of trauma-informed and restorative practice.
Ability to work collaboratively and respond flexibly to dynamic situations.
About the School
This Birmingham North primary school has earned a reputation for balancing high expectations with genuine pastoral warmth. With a recent Good Ofsted rating, the school has been praised for its inclusive culture, supportive leadership, and strong safeguarding ethos. Staff work as a unified team, sharing strategies and celebrating progress — whether academic, social, or emotional. The school’s approach to behaviour is relational rather than punitive: pupils are encouraged to reflect, repair, and return to learning with confidence. Class sizes are manageable and the pastoral offer is well-resourced, allowing Behaviour Buddies to work meaningfully with pupils without being stretched thin. For professionals who believe that emotional development is just as important as academics, this is an exceptional environment to grow your skills while making a measurable impact.
