World Book Day 2026 | West Midlands Schools
To celebrate World Book Day, we’re inviting schools across the West Midlands to help us name a brand-new storybook character.
We’ve written an original children’s story about a small magical creature who is curious about the world and wondering who they are. Along the way, they meet a Woodpecker who pecks wood, a Waterfall that falls, and a Seed who is still becoming.
At the end of the story, the creature turns to the reader and asks:
“Well… do you have any ideas?”
And that’s where your pupils come in.
How to Enter

Download or read the story with your class.

Let your pupils decide what the creature should be called.

Submit your chosen name(s) using the entry form below before 5pm on Wednesday 18th March.
