Job Description

As a Calm and Focus Learning Assistant, you will support pupils in Key Stage 2 who benefit from smoother transitions, structured routines, and gentle guidance throughout their school day. Working alongside the class teacher, you will help pupils engage with learning tasks, regulate their emotions, and build stronger independent working habits.

Many of the pupils you support may struggle with focus, mild behavioural needs, low confidence, or difficulties managing busy classroom environments. You will use visual prompts, step-by-step modelling, positive reinforcement, and calm communication to help pupils understand expectations and feel equipped to take part in lessons. This includes one-to-one guidance, small-group work, and targeted interventions for reading, writing, and maths.

You will be an essential steadying presence in the classroom—someone who encourages progress during challenging moments, celebrates meaningful steps forward, and helps pupils feel safe, supported, and ready to learn. This role suits someone patient, observant, and motivated by helping children find their sense of calm and capability.

But, I don’t want to register with a supply agency, why should I sign up with Milestone?

We get it. Supply agencies can’t always deliver exactly what you’re looking for, but that’s where we’re different…

We’re an education platform service who partner with schools and MATs to support their recruitment, training and wellbeing needs. It’s in our interest to secure you a role you’ll love, in a setting you’ll want to stay in, with a view to progressing your career. If that’s what you want!

How much does it cost and how much will I be paid?

Our services to you are completely free.

Costs will only incur if you require a new DBS or OSPC, but don't worry - we can still put you forward for interviews while the applications in process, so you won't miss out on all the exciting opportunities!
