Job Description

As a Communication Support Mentor you will work with pupils who have a range of communication needs including autism speech and language delays social communication differences and sensory based barriers. Your role is to help pupils access learning through tailored communication strategies consistent routines and supportive relational guidance.

You will work closely with the SENCo speech and language therapists and class teachers to implement structured communication plans using visuals symbols AAC devices social stories and simplified language. In class you will help pupils interpret instructions build confidence during group work and regulate emotions through sensory tools and calm predictable interactions.

This role suits someone who values patience empathy and curiosity and who understands that communication progress often comes through small consistent steps. You will play an essential part in helping pupils build expressive and receptive communication skills that will shape their long term confidence and independence.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Support pupils using AAC visuals symbols and structured communication tools
Deliver short one to one and small group communication sessions
Use sensory strategies to aid regulation and focus
Assist teachers in adapting instructions and tasks
Provide calm relational support during challenging moments
