Job Description

As a Complex Needs Support Partner, you will work with pupils who require highly personalised guidance to access learning and feel emotionally and physically secure throughout the day. These pupils may have autism, sensory processing differences, physical needs, medical needs, communication barriers, or learning delays that require careful, structured support.

Working closely with the class teacher, SENCo, and therapy teams, you will help deliver adapted learning tasks using visuals, step-by-step routines, and communication tools. You will provide one-to-one guidance during lessons, assist with sensory regulation, support transitions, and help pupils develop confidence through predictable interactions and clear expectations.

Many pupils will rely on your calm presence to navigate moments of anxiety or overload. You may also deliver short sessions focused on communication development, life skills, or sensory activities. This role is ideal for someone who is patient, intuitive, and motivated by helping children feel safe enough to learn in their own way.

Provide one-to-one support for pupils with complex learning or communication needs.
Implement visual supports, communication tools, and sensory strategies.
Assist with transitions, structured routines, and personal care where required.
Deliver small-group or individual skill-building activities.
Work closely with teachers and therapists to review progress.

Desired Experience
+ Qualifications

Experience supporting pupils with complex SEND needs.
Calm, patient, and consistent communication style.
Understanding of sensory regulation, communication needs, or medical pathways.
Ability to follow detailed support plans confidently.
Strong safeguarding awareness.

About the School

This Birmingham (B30) SEND school is known for its outstanding commitment to meeting the needs of pupils with complex learning profiles. With a Good Ofsted rating, the school offers a therapeutic, structured, and highly personalised learning environment where pupils benefit from speech and language therapy, sensory programmes, and multi-disciplinary support.

Classrooms are low-arousal and carefully designed to reduce overwhelm, with visual communication systems, sensory zones, and calm breakout areas. Teachers and support staff work collaboratively to ensure each pupil receives consistent routines and predictable approaches that help them feel secure and ready to learn.

The school places a strong emphasis on communication development, independence, emotional wellbeing, and life skills. Staff have access to regular training in Makaton, sensory integration, de-escalation, and specialised teaching strategies for complex needs. Families frequently describe the school as exceptionally supportive and transformative for their children.

For someone who values patience, structure, and meaningful impact, this is an environment where your skills genuinely change the trajectory of a child’s school experience.

What do I need?

  • Eligibility to work in the UK.

  • A DBS (and Overseas Police Check if you’ve recently lived outside the UK for more than 6 months).

  • Education-based referee details - we’ll apply for the references!

That’s it! Our process is simple, and our consultants will advise on how to fast track your checks so you can start working ASAP.

Equal Opportunities Employer

Milestone Education is a committed Equal Opportunities Employer and will not discriminate on the grounds of age, gender, race, ethnicity, disability, or sexual orientation.

Successful applicants will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check via the Disclosure and Barring Service. Our HR and Safeguarding team will be there to support you throughout the process.

But, I don’t want to register with a supply agency, why should I sign up with Milestone?

We get it. Supply agencies can’t always deliver exactly what you’re looking for, but that’s where we’re different…

We’re an education platform service who partner with schools and MATs to support their recruitment, training and wellbeing needs. It’s in our interest to secure you a role you’ll love, in a setting you’ll want to stay in, with a view to progressing your career. If that’s what you want!

Our HR and Safeguarding team consistently go the extra mile to complete your checks as quickly as possible - at no cost to you. To put so much hard work and valuable time into completing these checks and then NOT deliver the opportunities you are looking for…? Well, we’d go out of business pretty quickly!

How much does it cost and how much will I be paid?

Our services to you are completely free.

Costs will only incur if you require a new DBS or OSPC, but don't worry - we can still put you forward for interviews while the applications in process, so you won't miss out on all the exciting opportunities!

All roles are paid in line with Teachers Pay and Conditions, or are matched with each school’s salary guidelines for the role you undertake. We'll always negotiate the best possible pay rates that reflect your hard work, experience and qualifications.
