Job Description
We’re seeking a dedicated Pastoral and Learning (PAL) Mentor to join a diverse and forward-thinking secondary school in Birmingham. This role is perfect for someone who naturally connects with young people and has a calm, professional presence in the classroom. You’ll work with students who may be struggling academically or emotionally, helping them re-engage with learning through positive mentoring, structured routines, and personalised support. Working closely with pastoral leads and teaching staff, you’ll be at the heart of the school’s inclusion and wellbeing strategy — a key link between pupils, teachers, and families. Every day will bring new challenges and small victories, making this role deeply rewarding for those who value consistency, empathy, and encouragement.
Job Responsibilities:
Deliver one-to-one and small group mentoring to improve engagement and wellbeing
Support students in lessons and during transitions around the school
Liaise with pastoral teams and parents to promote consistent progress
Help reinforce behaviour policies through calm, constructive support

Experience in education, youth work, or pastoral care
Confident communicator with a calm and patient approach
Ability to de-escalate challenging situations and build rapport
