Job Description
As a Pastoral Engagement Mentor, you will work across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 supporting pupils who need consistent encouragement, practical boundaries, and emotional guidance to access learning. You will be a visible, active part of the pastoral team, helping pupils settle into lessons, navigate difficult moments, and build positive habits that support both behaviour and wellbeing.
You will work with pupils who may experience low confidence, social difficulties, anxiety, irregular attendance, or emerging behaviour needs. Your role includes one-to-one check-ins, restorative conversations, behaviour coaching, and in-class support during moments when pupils are at risk of disengagement. You will guide pupils through emotional regulation strategies, help them reflect on choices, and ensure they experience school as a safe and predictable place.
This role suits someone who remains calm under pressure, communicates clearly with teenagers, and believes that relationships are the foundation of meaningful behaviour support.

Deliver daily pastoral check-ins for identified pupils.
Support pupils in lessons with focus, behaviour, and organisation.
Lead restorative conversations and problem-solving sessions.
Assist with attendance follow-up and reintegration processes.

Confident communicator with strong relational skills.
Ability to stay calm during challenging situations.

Strong safeguarding awareness.
About the School
This Solihull (B92) secondary school is known for its strong pastoral systems, forward-thinking leadership, and commitment to ensuring pupils feel supported academically and emotionally. Rated Good by Ofsted, the school has clear routines, positive behaviour structures, and a culture that promotes dignity, fairness, and respect.
Staff collaborate closely across departments to identify pupils who need additional guidance and ensure they receive consistent, coordinated support. Pastoral hubs provide safe, structured environments where pupils can reflect, regulate, and prepare for learning. Intervention programmes focus on emotional literacy, resilience, behaviour guidance, and social development.
Leadership is visible and proactive, regularly investing in staff training related to inclusion, restorative practice, and wellbeing. Families speak positively about the school’s communication, its caring approach, and the progress their children make both academically and personally.
This is an excellent environment for someone who enjoys pastoral work, values teamwork, and wants to make a real difference in the day-to-day experience of young people.
