Job Description
This role is ideal if you’re driven by equity and want to support pupils who face barriers to learning. As a Pupil Premium Support Assistant, you’ll work across KS1 and KS2 cohorts to boost confidence, engagement, and progress among pupils who qualify for additional funding. Based in a Birmingham South primary school, you’ll deliver structured interventions in literacy, numeracy, and emotional regulation, working closely with class teachers and the Pupil Premium Lead. This isn’t a “float around” job—your work will directly impact attainment, attendance, and readiness to learn. You’ll help small groups develop strategies for learning and independence, and you’ll support individual pupils who need reassurance, challenge, or extra scaffolding. With behaviour training and intervention tools provided, you’ll gain hands-on experience that builds a strong pathway into education psychology, teaching, mentoring, or inclusion leadership roles.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Deliver small-group and 1:1 interventions in core subjects
Support attendance, engagement, and classroom transitions
Track progress and liaise with teaching staff
Implement emotional regulation strategies
Assist with planning and preparation of tailored resources
Provide feedback on pupil achievement and needs
Desired Experience
+ Qualifications
Experience in primary, tutoring, mentoring, or intervention
Understanding of pupil disadvantage and barriers to learning
Patience, confidence, and strong communication
Ability to follow plans and adapt in real time
Commitment to inclusion and progress
GCSE-level qualifications or similar
