Job Description
This role is ideal for someone who thrives on helping pupils overcome barriers in core subjects while building maturity, confidence, and motivation. As a Secondary Learning Coach, you’ll support KS3 and KS4 pupils in Birmingham who need targeted guidance in subjects like English, maths, and science. You’ll work with teaching staff to adapt content, reinforce prior learning, and build independent study habits that stick. Rather than acting as a general TA, you’ll lead intervention sessions, mentor small groups, and tailor support to individual learning plans. You’ll help disengaged learners reconnect with classroom expectations, give them tools to self-manage, and offer practical academic scaffolding. The role suits someone confident, warm, and proactive—someone who sees beyond behaviour and focuses on unlocking progress. The school actively supports staff career progression, making this a strong opportunity if you're considering teaching, pastoral routes, SEND development, or subject specialism in the future.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support KS3/KS4 pupils in small groups and targeted 1:1 sessions
Reinforce learning in maths, English, and science
Implement academic interventions and track pupil outcomes
Liaise with subject leads and pastoral teams
Model positive communication and study habits
Assist with behaviour support and lesson transition routines
Desired Experience
+ Qualifications
Experience in secondary, tutoring, mentoring, or intervention work
Confident supporting mixed-ability learners
Strong communication and resilience
Able to follow support plans and adapt resources
Positive role model with initiative
GCSE English/Maths or equivalent qualification
