Job Description

A nurturing primary school in Birmingham North is seeking a SEND Inclusion Mentor to work closely with pupils who require additional support to access the curriculum confidently and feel secure in the classroom environment. This role suits someone calm, thoughtful and emotionally intelligent — someone who instinctively understands that children make progress when they feel understood, valued and safe. You will work across KS1 and KS2, building trusting relationships with pupils who may experience communication challenges, sensory needs or emotional regulation difficulties. The school believes support staff are pivotal in shaping a child’s day and ensures that mentors are fully integrated with the SENDCO, class teachers and pastoral team. You’ll take part in planning meetings, adapt tasks, guide pupils through transitions and help them feel ready to learn. This is a role that blends patience with creativity, offering the chance to support meaningful breakthroughs while being part of a supportive, collaborative team that truly champions inclusivity.

Job Responsibilities:
Provide 1:1 and small-group SEND support focused on communication, engagement and emotional regulation.
Assist in adapting classroom activities to ensure pupils can access learning with confidence.
Implement personalised strategies and contribute to SEND plans in collaboration with the SENDCO.
Support transitions, sensory breaks and daily routines to maintain calm, predictable learning experiences.

Desired Experience
+ Qualifications

Experience supporting children with SEND, particularly in primary settings.
Strong communication skills and the ability to build calm, trusting relationships with pupils.
Understanding of sensory needs, emotional regulation and adaptive support.
Reliable, proactive and able to work within a multidisciplinary team.

Staff collaborate closely across year groups and champion a whole-school approach to wellbeing, behaviour and communication. The school is proud of its diverse community and invests heavily in parent partnerships, ensuring families feel involved and understood. Classrooms are calm, organised and designed with accessibility in mind. Leaders are present, supportive and committed to empowering staff with ongoing professional development.
