Job Description
As a SEND Independence Coach, you will work with pupils who have diverse learning needs, helping them build confidence, routine, and essential self-management skills. You will support pupils in accessing learning, participating in classroom tasks, and developing independence through structured guidance and personalised strategies.
Working alongside class teachers and the SENCo, you will help implement tailored support plans that may include visual timetables, regulation breaks, simplified instruction, social stories, and step-by-step routines. You will offer in-class support as well as short, targeted sessions focusing on emotional regulation, communication, and practical skill-building. Pupils may have autism, learning delays, sensory differences, or mild to moderate cognitive needs.
Your presence provides reassurance, consistency, and safety for pupils who benefit from clear expectations, patient explanations, and predictable interactions. This role is ideal for someone who is gentle but confident, emotionally aware, and motivated by seeing pupils gain skills that increase their independence both in school and beyond.

Provide daily classroom support for pupils with SEND needs.
Help pupils follow routines using visuals, modelling, and step-by-step prompts.
Deliver short independence-building sessions focused on organisation, communication, and self-regulation.
Support pupils during transitions, sensory breaks, and moments of dysregulation.
Communicate observations with teaching staff to inform ongoing provision.
Desired Experience
+ Qualifications
Experience supporting pupils with SEND needs (autism, cognition, or communication differences).
Calm, patient, supportive communication style.
Ability to follow structured support plans with accuracy.
Understanding of sensory needs and emotional regulation strategies.
Strong safeguarding awareness and reflective practice.
