Job Description

We’re seeking a SEND Learning Support Assistant to join an Outstanding special school in Sandwell. This role is perfect for someone who’s patient, hands-on, and passionate about helping learners with autism, developmental delay, or communication needs. You’ll support pupils in both classroom and sensory environments, adapting resources, modelling emotional regulation, and using visual aids to ensure every learner can access the curriculum. Some days will be structured and calm; others full of movement, music, and laughter. You don’t need to know Makaton or PECS already — the school will train you. What matters most is positivity, empathy, and consistency.

Assist with communication and sensory strategies.
Encourage self-regulation and emotional wellbeing.
Reinforce daily routines and structured learning.

Desired Experience
+ Qualifications

Experience in SEND or youth support desirable.
Resilience, patience, and team spirit.
Comfortable using creative or visual strategies.
Willingness to learn therapeutic approaches.

About the School

This Sandwell SEND school, rated Outstanding by Ofsted, is widely recognised for its warm yet ambitious learning environment. Inspectors praised the staff’s ability to celebrate every pupil’s strengths rather than focusing on limitations. The curriculum is highly personalised, with sensory experiences, outdoor learning zones, therapy spaces, and play-based exploration forming part of daily life. Staff are deeply collaborative and supported with excellent training pathways. The leadership team actively invests in staff wellbeing, making it an inspiring place to grow professionally. What do I need?

  • Eligibility to work in the UK.

  • Education-based referee details - we’ll apply for the references!

That’s it! Our process is simple, and our consultants will advise on how to fast track your checks so you can start working ASAP.

Equal Opportunities Employer

Milestone Education is a committed Equal Opportunities Employer and will not discriminate on the grounds of age, gender, race, ethnicity, disability, or sexual orientation.

Successful applicants will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check via the Disclosure and Barring Service. Our HR and Safeguarding team will be there to support you throughout the process.

But, I don’t want to register with a supply agency, why should I sign up with Milestone?

We get it. Supply agencies can’t always deliver exactly what you’re looking for, but that’s where we’re different…

We’re an education platform service who partner with schools and MATs to support their recruitment, training and wellbeing needs. It’s in our interest to secure you a role you’ll love, in a setting you’ll want to stay in, with a view to progressing your career. If that’s what you want!

Our HR and Safeguarding team consistently go the extra mile to complete your checks as quickly as possible - at no cost to you. To put so much hard work and valuable time into completing these checks and then NOT deliver the opportunities you are looking for…? Well, we’d go out of business pretty quickly!

How much does it cost and how much will I be paid?

Our services to you are completely free.

Costs will only incur if you require a new DBS or OSPC, but don't worry - we can still put you forward for interviews while the applications in process, so you won't miss out on all the exciting opportunities!

All roles are paid in line with Teachers Pay and Conditions, or are matched with each school’s salary guidelines for the role you undertake. We'll always negotiate the best possible pay rates that reflect your hard work, experience and qualifications.
