Job Description
This role is perfect if you’re motivated by progress you can actually see. As a SEND Support Specialist, you’ll work with pupils who have autism, communication needs, sensory profiles, and SEMH challenges in a Birmingham setting that prioritises nurture and consistency. Your day will include structured classroom support, emotional regulation work, and tailored guidance for individuals and small groups. You’ll collaborate with therapists, SENDCOs, and specialist teachers to personalise learning so pupils aren’t left behind. This is not a generic TA role—your presence helps pupils regulate, feel safe, and access education at their pace. You’ll use visual supports, sensory routines, and communication strategies to boost independence and engagement. If you’re calm under pressure and committed to pupils others underestimate, this role gives you scope to create change and grow your practice.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Deliver 1:1 and group support for pupils with autism and SEMH
Use communication aids, sensory breaks, and visual tools
Assist with EHCP targets and intervention plans
Track responses to strategies and liaise with staff teams
Support behaviour regulation and emotional routines
Provide consistent, supportive adult presence
Desired Experience
+ Qualifications
Experience in SEND, care, PRU, or inclusion-based roles
Understanding of autism, sensory processing, or SEMH
Calm, patient, and confident approach
Ability to follow behaviour and learning plans
Strong communication with staff and families
Enthusiasm for pupil-centred support
